In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

bis.mi Allahi (a)lrraH.maEni (a)lrraHimi

The Inevitable!

Alhaqqatu

What is the Inevitable?

maA (a)l.HaA~qqa(t)u

And what do you know what the Inevitable is?

wamaA _ad.raYEka maA (a)l.HaA~qqa(t)u

Thamud and `Ad belied the coming of the sudden calamity.

kadhdhabat. thamuwdu wa`aAd(un)[m] bi(a)l.qaAri`a(t)i

Thamud were destroyed by a violent catastrophe

fa_ammaA thamuwdu fa_uh.likuwA[0] bi(a)lTTaAghiya(t)i

As for `Ad, they were destroyed by a furious windstorm;

wa_ammaA `aAd(un) fa_uh.likuwA[0] biriyH(in) Sar.Sar(in) `aAtiya(t)(in)

Allah imposed it on them for seven nights and eight days continuously. (Had you been there) you would have seen them lying prostrate as though they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

sakhkharahaA `alay.him. sab.`a layaAl(in) wathamaEniya(t)a _ayyaAm(in) Husuwm(an)A fataraY (a)l.qaw.ma fiyhaA Sar`aYE kaAnnahum. _a`.jaAzu nakh.l(in) khaAwiya(t)(in)

Now do you see any of them still surviving?

fahal. taraY lahum. min[m] baAqiya(t)(in)

And the same great crime did Pharaoh and the people before him and the overturned settlements commit.

wajaA~?a fir.`awnu waman. qab.lahU wa(a)l.muwe.tafika(t)u bi(a)l.khaATiYea(t)i

They all disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord and He seized them with a terrible grip.

faAAaSaw. rasuwla rabbihim. fa_akhadhahum. _akh.dha(t)(an) raAbiya(t)(an)

When the Flood waters rose abnormally high, We boarded you in the Ark,

Inna lamma tagha almao hamalnakum fee aljariyati

that We may make the event a warning for you and that the retaining ears may retain its memory.

linaj.`alahaA lakum. tadh.kira(t)(an) wata`iyahaA~ _udhun(un) waE`iya(t)(un)

Then, when the Trumpet is blown once,

fa_idhaA nufikha fiy (a)lSSuwri naf.kha(t)(un) waEHida(t)(un)

and the earth and the mountains are razed and crushed into pieces with a single stroke,

waHumilati (a)l._ar.Du wa(a)l.jibaAlu fadukkataA dakka(t)(an) waEHida(t)(an)

on that Day shall the Inevitable happen.

fayaw.maY_eidh(in) waqa`ati (a)l.waEqi`a(t)u

On that Day the heaven shall split asunder,

wa(a)n.shaqqati (a)lssamaA~?u fahiya yaw.maY_eidh(in) waAhiya(t)(un)

and its system shall loosen. The angels shall be on its sides and eight of them on that Day shall be upholding the Throne of your Lord, above them.

wa(a)l.malaku `alaYE~ _ar.jaA~Y_eihaA[j] wayaH.milu `ar.sha rabbika faw.qahum. yaw.maY_eidh(in) thamaEniya(t)(un)

That will be the Day when you will be brought forth: no secret of yours will remain hidden.

yaw.maY_eidh(in) tu`.raDuwna laA takh.faYE min.kum. khaAfiya(t)(un)

Then whoso is given his record in his right hand, shall say: "Look! Read my record.

fa_ammaA man. _uwtiya kitaEbahU biyamiynihI fayaquwlu haA~?umu (a)q.raweuA[0] kitaEbiyah

I knew that! would certainly be getting my account,"

_inniy Zanan.tu _anniy mulaEq(in) HisaAbiyah

So he shall be in a state of bliss,

Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiyatin

in a high Garden,

fiy janna(t)(in) `aAliya(t)(in)

whose clusters of fruit shall be hanging within easy reach.

quTuwfuhaA daAniya(t)(un)

(To such people it will be said) "Eat and drink with relish as a reward for the deeds you did in the days gone by."

kuluwA[0] wa(a)sh.rabuwA[0] haniy~Ye(an)A[m] bimaA _as.laf.tum. fiy (a)l_ayyaAmi (a)l.khaAliya(t)i

As for him whose record is given in his left hand, he will say: "Would that I had not been given my record

wa_ammaA man. _uwtiya kitaEbahU bishimaAlihI fayaquwlu yaElay.taniy lam. _uwta kitaEbiyah.

nor known what my account was.

walam. _ad.ri maA HisaAbiyah

Would that the death (that I suffered in the world) were final.

yaElay.tahaA kaAnati (a)l.qaADiya(t)u

Today my wealth has availed me nothing,

maA _agh.naYE `anniy maAliyah[s]

and I am robbed of all my power.

halaka `anniy sul.Taniyah

(It will be ordered:) "Seize him and chain him by the neck,

khudhuwhu faghulluwhu

then cast him into Hell,

thumma (a)l.jaHiyma Salluwhu

then fasten him in a chain seventy cubits long.

thumma fiy sil.sila(t)(in) dhar.`uhaA sab.`uwna dhiraA`(an)A fa(a)s.lukuwhu

For he did not believe in Allah, the Most High,

_innahU kaAna laA yuwe.minu biAllahi (a)l.`aZiymi

nor urged the feeding of the poor.

walaA yaHuDDu `alaYE Ta`aAmi (a)l.mis.kiyni

So, he has neither any true friend here today

falay.sa lahu (a)l.yaw.ma haEhunaA Hamiym(un)

nor any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds,

walaA Ta`aAm(un) _illaA min. ghis.liyn(in)

which none but the sinners eat.

laA ya_a.kuluhU _illaA (a)l.khaETiweuna

Not so! I swear by those things which you see

falaA~ _uq.simu bimaA tub.Siruwna

and also by those which you do not see,

wamaA laA tub.Siruwna

that this is the Word of an honorable Messenger.

_innahU laqaw.lu rasuwl(in) kariym(in)

It is not the word of a poet: little it is that you believe.

Wama huwa biqawli shaAAirin. qaleelan. ma tuminoona

Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little it is that you reflect.

Wala biqawli kahinin qaleelan ma tathakkaroona

It is a Revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

tan.ziyl(un) min. rabbi (a)l.`aElamiyna

And if this (Prophet) had forged something himself and ascribed it to Us,

walaw. taqawwala `alay.naA ba`.Da (a)l._aqaAwiyli

We would indeed have seized him by his right hand,

la_akhadh.naA min.hu bi(a)l.yamiyni

and cut off his neck-vein.

Thumma laqataAAna minhu alwateena

Then none of you could have withheld (Us) from this.

Fama minkum. min. ahadin. AAanhu hajizeena

This indeed is an Admonition for the righteous.

Wainnahu latathkiratun. llilmuttaqeena

And We know that there are some among you who deny it.

Wainna lanaAAlamu anna minkum. mukaththibeena

For such disbelievers it is indeed a cause of despair.

wa_innahU laHas.ra(t)(an) `alaYE (a)l.kaEfiryna

And surely this is the absolute truth.

wa_innahU laHaqqu (a)l.yaqiyni

So, glorify, O Prophet, the name of your Lord, the Great.
